Why, Hello There!
So glad you dropped by.
We are sisters, Annie & Eileen, who have dabbled in ecomm side hustles for years. As retirement hit early for one and loomed large for the other, we decided to triple down on our efforts and turn our efforts into real revenue. And we've never looked back.
Here we share our journey, our tips, and peeks behind the scenes, in hopes that you, too, will follow us.
Are you on the same journey?
We began when our parents became too frail to live alone. Annie remodeled her home, welcomed them in, and began working from home. With our beloved father's blessing and support, we decided this was the perfect time to build our own business.
Well, we executed every step to perfection, if we do say so ourselves. Found products, wrote descriptions, designed artful product photos and graphics. We even visted China! Did we sell? Yes. Did we succeed? Not in securing financial freedom! If only, if only, if only we'd run numbers as carefully as we've been taught in The Roadmap, we may have saved ourselves that adventure. Fond memories? Sure. But - memories were not the goal!
Rinse and repeat with Shopify stores and Etsy shops.
Were they complete failures? Heck no! And yet - let me quickly recount an old family story. I'd thought it was just a cute joke until Annie affirmed that this did indeed occur. When our father was in his youth in 1940s America, the family received a letter regarding a relative in Ireland. He'd had to undergo an opertation. And the doctor was satisfied with his own performance. Wrote he, "The opertation was a success. Unfortunately, the patient died." This has been the story of our stores. We lost sight of the bigger picture. We didn't know what we didn't know, especially about marketing. And without generating real income, our shops were DOA.
Now - I don't mean for this to be just another pitch for The Roadmap, but - boy, did we ever need it!
Our why's have changed.
At present, I have a hunger like I've never known to demonstrate that we are capable of adding value to the world and creating a comfortable income while doing so. Why? My daughters are all adults. Soon they will be - God willing and creek don't rise - popping out babies. And I want them to have the option I didn't think I had. In the 80s and 90s, women were told we could have it all - babies plus the privilege of working outside the home 40+ hours a week. I worked long hours outside the home throughout my girls' childhood. And regret it. Now I realize how finite time is. Now I realize how fleeting and precious those few years with our children are. If my daughters want to continue to work, fine. But I want them to have the option of working for themselves from their homes. And before I can preach this to them, I need to prove it to them. Before Prosperity Porch, I modeled hopes and dreams. It is time to model success
